Try this first, free: Open the windows and wash the pet's bedding. Bedding holds most of the smell.
The fix
- Wash pet bedding every week, in hot water if the label allows.
- Vacuum furniture and rugs, and wipe floors with a pet-safe cleaner.
- Use an enzyme cleaner on any accidents. It breaks the smell down and doesn't cover it.
- Run a purifier with a carbon filter in the room where the pet sleeps.
What this won't fully fix: These steps lower pet smell. A new rug or sofa that soaked it up may still hold some.
